International Trade Consultancy bringing global business and ideas closer to home!
What does your business do?
International trade guidance via international trade & feasibility missions, including offshore business development and sojourns to Ghana. Publish 7th edition, 17-Chapter resource guide for investors, "Passport to Trade, Travel and Tourism,” workshops, seminars, and speaking on how to enter the global marketplace. I own gold mines, produce functional art, furnishings, shea butter, including a joint-venture matching between screened successful Ghanaian business owners and US entrepreneurs. This is my passion and purpose - to share, teach and train international trade and business development in the Republic of Ghana West Africa.
When and why did you start the biz?
My business experience spans 20 years. However, I registered my company, Ghana West Africa, in 1999. As a 4th generation of the AME Church, we are taught...Africa the biblical story. Also, I am a product of a lifetime of travel as a Navy brat traveling the world and gaining a tremendous respect for culture. As a missionary, I traveled to Africa and realized I had value in terms of how I could tap into resources and eventually leave a legacy for my 3 children. I learned to go into rural villages and live and design prototypes for my US business. I began my 1st business, Second Time Around, in 1969, a retro high-end boutique with customers such as the Pointer Sisters, Bill Cosby and did a host of TV and fashion shows.
How Many People are in your Company? 12
What's the toughest part of running your biz?
Having to aggressively express how very import it is for African Americans to look globally and the importance of being self-employed. How we all have gifts of God that we can expand into a thriving business either globally or domestically. Working in group investment ventures allowing a greater return on revenue invested.
What's the most fun part?
Travel, experiencing the love of our ancestors and brothers and sisters when offering small assistance at any level.
What's next on the horizon for your biz?
To build a time-share resort on my ocean-front acreage where families can come home inexpensively and enjoy!
What advice do you have for others?
As an African American, I feel my fellow brothers and sisters must look within and follow our dreams no matter how small or large it may seem...not allowing anyone else determine our destinies! Listen to our elders who have "been there and done that" in terms of advice. Support and expose our children to good spiritual & life values early in life and continue throughout their lives! We must continue to read all types of books, magazines, joining like-minded peers by attending and network at informative events, including to constantly source information over the www to expand horizons to grow, use our imaginations to create and fill a unique business niche. I have done the above while raising my three children, 41, 30, and 26, all graduates, owning their own businesses, building their own homes, never been in trouble...and I AM FREE...to continue my dreams on the other side of the world! I relocated to Ghana in 1999 and began my journey to wealth creation that I could not have attained in America. Hence, I am now an International Trade Consultant, teaching others all that I know and I love it when they finally come home and see that I did not lie about opportunities untold!
Prior jobs or business or education?

Is there any one person or event in your life that led you to go into business for yourself?
